The Big Apple is hosting NYCxDesign and it has already started from May 10 and will run till 22. The annual event that celebrates design, gathers hundreds of thousands of visitors and designers all over the world, showcasing over a dozen design disciplines through exhibitions, installations, trade shows, panels, product launches, open studios, and more.

Just like design itself, NYCxDESIGN is everywhere, since events will take place across the city’s five boroughs. Here are all the main details worth knowing.

DESIGN PAVILION has returned to Times Square for NYCxDESIGN, that will be filled with performance spaces, interactive and information kiosks. New outdoor furniture from the Times Square Design Lab will also be making an appearance, as will competition for public-space furniture. Sound & Vision, a two-week long show from the American Design Club on the confluence of sound, technology, and design will use the area as staging. ICFF is the anchor event of NYCxDesign. It takes place at the Javits Center from May 19 to the 22. Furniture, Lightning, Outdoor Furniture and Wall Coverings are some of the product categories presented. Over 900 exhibitors from all over the worl showcase what’s best and what’s new for luxury interior design.

Wanted Design is a platform dedicated to promoting design and fostering the international community. The event will return to Brooklyn’s Industry city with more participants than ever. Graduate students from over 30 international schools are expected to present their work. In Manhattan, SVA’s Products of Design MFA students will present Tools for the Apocalypse, a showcase of products designed for life after a climate change-induced apocalypse. Each contribution is grouped thematically into one of four categories (fire, water, earth, and air) and addresses the evolution of essential materials in a time of dramatic ecological uncertainty.

This year marks the fourth year of the annual design competition, which honours the best of New York City design in products and projects. This open and inclusive awards program recognizes excellence in design from the hundreds of events that comprise NYCxDESIGN 2019. Submissions are reviewed by a jury of design industry leaders. For the fourth year in a row, the winner in each category will receive a custom version of Lladró’s unique sculpture, ‘The Guest’. ‘The Guest’ was conceptualized as a symbol of creativity and collaboration, inviting artist-designers worldwide to create their own versions of the character.

On the architecture side, Fernando Mastrangelo Studio will be showing a full-scale tiny home from cement, glass, sand, and silica. It will contain a living room, bedroom, and outdoor garden. Following a kick-off party at the studio’s space in Brooklyn, the house will be placed on a trailer and moved around the city for a “Where’s Waldo” experience.
