Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation unveils children’s furniture brand

The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation joins hand  with modern kids’ furniture brand, Mod Mom Furniture, and toddler furniture maker, Little Colorado, to launch a line of Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired children’s furniture. The first product to hit the market from the new Frank Lloyd Wright Playhouse brand is a play table and chair set for children ages two to six years old.

The table and chairs set takes its design cues from the plywood furniture Wright designed for his Usonian homes. Wright’s 60 Usonian homes were based on a build Wright completed after the Great Depression when a prospective client requested he build a home for the client’s family for $5,000. The original Usonian home is included in the portfolio of eight Wright buildings that were inscribed on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization World Heritage Site list in 2019.

In addition to being inspired by Wright’s furniture designs, five different graphic designs from Wright can be printed directly on the Playhouse table’s top, or it can be left in its natural finish. The furniture can be ordered as a set of two chairs a play table for $525 or as individual pieces at $290 for two chairs and $290 for an individual table at Mod Mom Furniture and Little Colorado’s websites.

“We plan to expand retail distribution to upscale independent brick-and-mortar stores throughout North America, and we anticipate that museum stores, as well as architecture and interior design professionals, will be interested as well,” said Bill Hare, one of Little Colorado’s founders.  Three other products from the collection are planned for 2020 launch, and eight products are in development for 2021. The next Playhouse piece, scheduled for release in May, is a child-sized scaled replica of Wright’s Origami chair.

“The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation inspires the world through an understanding and experience of Frank Lloyd Wright’s ideas, architecture and design. Developing a new line of children’s furniture that incorporates Wright’s design principles is a fantastic way to show new generations a beautiful and inspired way of living,” said Stuart Graff, president and CEO of the foundation.
