At the Las Vegas Winter Market, Malouf announced the launch of the CarbonCool + Omniphase pillow. Combining the temperature regulation properties of graphite with Omniphase technology—a proprietary application of phase change material (PCM)—the pillow is an unprecedented combination of materials that effectively stays cool all night long.
At first touch, the pillow feels like it came out of a refrigerator. That’s due to its instant cooling Ominphase surface and memory foam infused with Omniphase and graphite. Omniphase PCM provides first-of-its-kind heat transfer and thermal regulation through microencapsulated materials that continually change based on the temperature of the heat source. At the molecular level, the material inside the capsules changes from a solid to a liquid when the temperature is high and vice versa when the temperature is low. This continuous cycle is designed keep the pillow surface between 87 and 91 degrees, which research shows is the ideal skin temperature range for deep sleep.
Omniphase isn’t the only material to contribute to the pillow’s comfort. It’s also infused with super-conductive graphite particles that inherently move heat away from the head, face and neck. The CarbonCool is covered in Tencel mesh cover that quickly absorbs and releases moisture for a soft, breathable feel. The pillow is also CertiPUR-US certified and made in the U.S, ensuring a high quality pillow that will last.
Malouf kept details of the CarbonCool under wraps until Las Vegas Market began. As word spread, the company reported daily increases to its showroom traffic; ultimately breaking its previous traffic number by more than 30 percent.
Sam Malouf, CEO of Malouf, said, “The CarbonCool pillow is the result of extensive research and development so we couldn’t be more happy with the positive feedback we immediately received. The buzz surrounding it verifies the industry is anxious to find better solutions for cooling and temperature regulation in sleep products. With a truly unique technology on our hands, we’re excited for its possibilities.”
Market buzz wasn’t the only thing the company relied on to verify the cool factor of the pillow. Inside Malouf’s showroom, thermal imaging devices demonstrated the difference between normal foam and its proprietary CarbonCool memory foam. Thus, the result of substantial contrast in heat dissipation and temperature regulation proved to be beyond gimmicks.
