Wiggle Room, an e-commerce company that sells uniquely shaped tables, has launched its new all wood collection – which features a side table, coffee table and dining table – all made from durable Baltic birch. “In the fall of 2019, we built a wiggly pink dining table for our South Brooklyn apartment. It took way too long and was a little wobbly, but it looked like nothing we’d seen before,” said Levi Shaw-Faber and Zoe Cohen, Wiggle Room co-founders.
“Then, we edited the design and made a yellow one for our friend Susan,” they added. “That one was stable, and Susan liked it. Someone suggested we design a wiggly coffee table, so we did. And, while we were at it, we made a side table, too.”
The co-founders say the mid-20th-century work of Brazilian landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx inspired the wiggly shape of the table. “Burle Marx, a master at flowing curves, was said to have painted with plants,” said Shaw-Faber and Cohen. “Our goal is to bring his organic shapes into the home.”
With the new collection, the founders say the all-birch colorway, inspired by the minimalism of Finnish architect Alvar Aalto, highlights the company’s signature organic form. The new Baltic birth side table retails for $320; the coffee table is available in a 45-inch size for $720 and a 60-inch size for $950. Dining tables run $1,080 for the 50-inch table and $1,380 for the 60-inch table.
